About Claude
Claude Koontz’s 37 years in financial services makes for deep relationships. He often works with multiple generations of one family, extending back to the 1980s or 90s. His clients are often friends first and become clients later.
His investment philosophy includes buying companies instead of stocks. By that, he means learning about the company, understanding its suppliers, customers, competitors, and barriers to entry, and planning to hold for a long time. This approach helps reduce bad decisions made in the height of emotions. He does not use a short-term trading strategy.
Claude is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) with a B.A. from The University of Texas in Economics and an M.B.A. from Tulane University in Finance. Claude is a Member of the CFA® Institute and the CFA® Society of San Antonio, Texas.
Claude grew up on a South Texas cattle ranch and remains involved with the ranch today. He supports children’s causes and served on the board of St. Peter-St. Joseph’s Children’s Home for fifteen years. This organization cares for San Antonio’s neglected and abused children. He also served on the St. Luke’s Episcopal School board for twelve years. His commitment to children extends to the financial literacy of his client’s children. He and his colleague, Raul Rios, created a popular program to teach them financial literacy.
Claude and his wife live in San Antonio, Texas, spending summers with her family in Dorset, England. He enjoys hunting, tennis, and travel.
