We’ve stepped over the threshold of 2020 and welcomed a brand-new decade. Oftentimes, the borders of our lives are spoken in the language of time. We associate transformation and change with seminal dates, the process of development more easily demarcated when expressed in the context of time. Time is the catch-all unit of measure into which we pour both the chicken and the egg, the cause and the effect, the inciting event and the aftershocks. Time is the pond into which we throw our stones of cultural evolution and see the responding ripples. Imagine the possibilities inherent in being able to look back on former decades, gathering data on the varied dynamic forces acting in a given period of time, and drawing some conclusions about how those forces shaped that era.
