Matthew Karpas is a seasoned and trusted advisor who has spent more than four decades helping individuals and families build, preserve, and transfer wealth with clarity and confidence. Known for his integrity, insight, and steady guidance, Matthew builds enduring client relationships through a disciplined, client-first philosophy. He designs customized portfolios aligned with each client’s goals, time horizon, and priorities, often serving multiple generations within the same family. 

Before joining Sequoia Financial Group, Matthew founded and led the independent investment management firm Karpas Strategies for more than three decades. Earlier in his career, he held roles at J.P. Morgan & Co. in New York and Tokyo, shaping the global perspective that still informs his investment approach today. In every client relationship, Matthew starts by identifying what matters most to his clients—both today and down the road—to create a shared vision that guides decisions with clarity, intention, and confidence.  

Matthew earned a Bachelor of Science in finance and international business from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He is the proud father of two daughters, a lifelong soccer enthusiast, and an avid traveler who has explored more than 65 countries. Deeply committed to community service, Matthew serves on the board of CJR (formerly as Board Chair), is Treasurer of the Seherr-Thoss Foundation, and has held additional nonprofit board leadership roles throughout the Litchfield, Connecticut area.
