Investment Philosophy

Committee Composition

Sequoia’s Investment Committee is comprised of all of Sequoia’s client advisors, as well as an outside representative from our research partner, Algonquin Advisors. Each advisor on our team has a role in the review, analysis and ongoing monitoring of our recommended investment positions and allocation strategy.

Our Process

The committee conducts a rigorous process to identify the appropriate asset management style for each client. We use a top-down approach in determining the appropriate investment vehicles and allocation strategy for our clients.

We meet weekly to discuss the market and review the performance of all funds and fund managers in the firm’s portfolio. Our process begins with gaining a detailed understanding of the current global macro-economic picture. We analyze domestic and international market, currency, interest rate, geopolitical and socioeconomic trends. Our analysis then drives our committee’s asset allocation decisions, e.g., in what areas of the market we will increase or decrease our clients’ exposure. We then use an exacting due diligence process to determine which investment vehicles are most appropriate to execute our asset allocation strategy. This may include a combination of mutual funds, equities, bonds, CDs, ETFs and cash, or money market vehicles. In general, we recommend a select number of funds to our clients. By maintaining a very selective list of investment vehicles, this helps to ensure that each advisor has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of each position in our recommended portfolios.

Also central to our selection process is our practice of employing “one degree of separation” with fund managers. This means that either Sequoia or Algonquin Advisors, located just outside of New York City, has a personal contact with the individual money managers that we utilize. By adhering to this selective investment process, we are able to maintain an in-depth understanding of how, and where, our clients’ money is invested.

Past Performance

Our thoughtful investment process has provided a historical investment performance of which we are very proud.

We encourage you to review this performance in our Sequoia Premier Allocation Portfolios Return document.

Past performance does not guarantee future results.
