We specialize in teaching our clients how to plan, prepare, and pay for college and may help families determine options for funding their upcoming college education expenses. Our goal is to guide families in the right direction to prepare for and manage the process of college admissions, financial aid, and paying for college, while continuing to work toward other goals such as retirement savings.
Eligibility for financial aid depends on your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), your year in school, your enrollment status, and the cost of attendance at the school you will be attending. The financial aid office at your college will determine how much financial aid you are eligible to receive.
The Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is a measure of your family’s financial strength and is calculated according to a formula established by law. Your family’s taxed and untaxed income, assets, and benefits are all considered in the formula. Also considered are your family size and the number of family members who will attend college during the year. The information you report on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to calculate your EFC. Schools use the EFC to determine your federal student aid eligibility and financial aid award. Your EFC is not the amount of money your family will have to pay for college or the amount of federal student aid you will receive. It is a number used by colleges to calculate the amount of federal student aid you are eligible to receive.
