Retirement Plans
As a key part of a company’s benefits package, your retirement plan can help create a desirable work environment. Sequoia’s Retirement Plan Group provides a comprehensive approach to designing and maintaining a Plan that helps meet not only your employees’ needs, but the needs of you as the owner as well. To that end, we are keenly aware of your role as a fiduciary of the Plan and provide tools and resources to help you meet those responsibilities. In addition, our proactive service extends from management and administrators to employees and plan participants.

Retirement plans typically fall into two primary categories:

Qualified Plans
The most common qualified plans are 401(k) programs, defined benefit plans and profit sharing plans. Because these plans meet certain IRS guidelines, they offer tax savings* for your company and your employees.

Non-Qualified Plans
Non-Qualified plans, which include deferred compensation plans and stock appreciation plans, are typically designed to benefit a specific group of employees. While they lack certain tax advantages, they generally offer more options for highly-compensated employees..

Process
Understand
Our retirement planners familiarize themselves with the personal goals of the owner(s) and those of the organization as a whole. Detailed plan document provisions, such as eligibility, match, and vesting are discussed in detail as well.

Research and Selection
If desired, we help the plan sponsor review the many institution and platform options, and select the vendor that most adequately meets company goals. Part of this step is breaking out the myriad of fees and expenses that are often hidden behind complex language or contracts. As an independent advisor, Sequoia acts as an advocate of the plan sponsor and can work with numerous plan providers.

Implement and/or convert
Once a decision is made, Sequoia works carefully with the plan’s sponsor and participants, Third Party Administrator and plan provider to help ensure a smooth transition. We assist the plan sponsor in completing all required paperwork and legal notifications during the implementation of a new plan or modification of an existing one. We then provide direct employee communications, which is critical to participant understanding and utilization.

Enroll and Educate
Our personalized approach provides plan participants with education to make well informed decisions regarding the structure of their account, benefits, tax advantages and more. We also assist in the enrollment process and have meetings with employees to carefully review the plan and answer any questions. Additionally, we update plan participants regularly in regards to plan changes and economic and market movements.

Monitor
Sequoia continually monitors your plan to help ensure the plan is continuing to meet changing demographics and operating according to the established goals and objectives. Regularly scheduled meetings with the plan sponsor encompass a review of the plan, monitoring of progress and determining if changes or updates are needed.

Fiduciary Responsibility
We assist the plan sponsor in identifying their fiduciary liability and documenting the processes put in place to meet their responsibilities. We also discuss ongoing fiduciary responsibilities as markets and regulations changes.
